“Both you and your child will enjoy the story about Mo, an adorable little dog, and the real life smells are sure to leave you craving a juicy red strawberry, a walk through a rose garden, a piece of chocolate.. or maybe all three. The book is short and sweet making it perfect for kids two years and older. My daughter is two years old and wants to read Mo Smells Red every time she sees it. The concept is fascinating. I thought surely after reading the book a few times, the smell of the roses would combine with the smell of the strawberries and so on, but that’s not the case. Each smell stays true to what it is and will for thousands of sniffs.”⎯The Mommy Insider

“We absolutely adore the book Mo Smells Red”Columbus Parent

“My six-year old son loved the book. We read it together and then he sat for a while, reading, sniffing, and thoroughly enjoying himself. Mo Smells Red is sure to delight kids of all ages, and the scents inside are good enough to have grown-ups pressing the artwork as well!”⎯Mom Finds

“Mo is going to be a star.”⎯Jewish Journal

“The best smelling booth: Mo Smells Red. These folks have reinvented the scratch and sniff…”⎯Publishers Weekly

“Mo’s Nose is a series of books that use a new smell technology. Unlike scratch ’n’ sniff, which wears out after a few uses, “Press-2-Smell” technology lasts for thousands of presses. The first book in the series, Mo Smells Red by Margaret Hyde, illustrated by Amanda Giacomini, takes young readers along as Mo, a black and white dog, learns what roses, strawberries, fire, and love smell like. A percentage of the proceeds from the books will benefit the Best Friends Animal Society.”⎯Foreward Magazine

MO SMELLS RED, THE FIRST IN THE MO’S NOSE CHILDREN’S SERIES
DEBUTS AT BOOK EXPO 2008

In Time for the Gift-Giving Season, Mo Smells Red
Premiers Exclusive Non-Toxic Press-2-Smell Technology

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 15, 2008) — Long time best friends, author Margaret Hyde and illustrator Amanda Giacomini have created an innovative series of children’s books, Mo’s Nose, that guide young readers on an interactive journey along with the book’s four-legged protagonist. Mo Smells Red, the first installation, is a lyrical tale about a dog named Mo who sees colors with his nose. Inspired by Giacomini’s real life rescue dog Mo, the illustrator expertly captures the mixed breed’s sensitive, loving nature through her playful ink brush style. Hyde’s poetic brand of storytelling brilliantly interprets a dog’s monochromatic vision through its heightened sense of smell – experiencing a world of color not through his eyes, but through his nose. Through innovative Press-2-Smell technology, the book gives readers an opportunity to rediscover their own senses through an olfactory odyssey, including full color illustrations, that surprise and delight with the turn of each page. Mo Smells Red is available online at Amazon.com on www.MosNose.com and at select national retailers this year.

The Press-2-Smell technology enables readers to actually smell what Mo smells. Cleverly embedded within the pages of the book are scent-dispensing packets good for thousands of “sniffs” containing safe, non-toxic scents that truly mimic real life smells. So a rose smells like a fresh garden rose, complete with hint of leaf and surrounding grass. Margaret says, “I was nostalgic for the scented stickers and markers I loved as a young child and wanted to create something for a new generation because our sense of smell is such a powerful way we explore, remember, and enjoy the world around us.” The embedded scent pouches contain natural essential oils and the pages are printed on 10% post-consumer paper stock and printed with soy-based inks.

The Mo’s Nose series will include a line of exclusive, scented Mo’s Nose t-shirts for men (vanilla), women (rose), children (strawberry) and baby (unscented). The book appeals to children (ages two and up) new to exploring colors, shapes and smells, tweens who love the collectable aspect of the book, art lovers who appreciate the serialized graphic quality of the artwork and pet enthusiasts who see their own rescue dog in Mo. The book and Mo’s Nose accessories make “scentsational” gifts in time for the holiday season. A portion of the proceeds will go to Best Friends Animal Society (www.BestFriends.org) and support their initiatives to work with humane groups across the country — to bring about a time when there are no more homeless pets.

Margaret Hyde is a publisher, writer, and photographer living in Southern California with her three amazing kids. Inspiration struck Margaret in the middle of the night as her best friend’s dog, Mo, leapt into her imagination. She awoke, and wrote the text and idea for Mo’s scent-filled adventure. Margaret Hyde’s previously published books for children include Dreadilocks and the Three Slugs and the popular Great Art for Kids series, with titles including Picasso for Kids and Matisse for Kids.

Amanda Giacomini is an artist, graphic designer and yoga teacher. She lives in Point Reyes, California, where she and her husband, Nicholas, run their own yoga studio called Yoga Toes. They are the proud parents of Mo the dog. Best friends for 20 years, this is Hyde and Giacomini’s first artistic collaboration.
